What are the Dubai Metro timings?
Monday to Thursday and Saturday 5:00 am to midnight, Friday 5:00 am to 1:00 am, Sunday 8:00 am to midnight. See timings today.
Does the metro run on Sunday morning?
Yes, but it starts later, at 8:00 am.
Does the metro run all night on holidays?
No. On holidays RTA usually extends closing to 1:00 am; it does not run overnight.
How often do trains come?
Every 2 minutes in peak hours on the central Red Line section, less often on the branches and outside rush hours.
Tickets and fares
How much is a metro ride?
AED 3, 5 or 7.50 with Silver nol, by number of zones. All fares.
Is there a day pass?
Yes: AED 22 for unlimited Metro, Tram and bus for one day; AED 42 for the Gold version.
What is the minimum balance?
AED 7.50 on a Silver card to enter.
Can I share one nol card?
Each passenger needs their own card for each trip, because the card is checked at entry and exit. Using a personal or discount card that belongs to someone else is fined AED 200.
Do children pay?
Children under 5 travel free. Students aged 5 to 23 get 50% off with a personal Blue card.
Stations and lines
How many stations are there?
53 in operation: 35 on the Red Line and 20 on the Green Line, with 2 shared.
Why can't I find Rashidiya station?
It is now called Centrepoint. Many stations have been renamed; see the list.
Which station is for Burj Khalifa?
Is there a metro to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah?
No. The Dubai Metro only runs within Dubai.
Airport
Which terminals have a metro station?
DXB Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 does not.
How much luggage can I take?
Two pieces: one up to 81 × 58 × 30 cm and one up to 55 × 38 × 20 cm.
Can I reach Al Maktoum Airport (DWC) by metro?
Not directly; take the Red Line to Ibn Battuta or Expo 2020 and then a bus or taxi.
Rules
Can I eat or drink on the metro?
No. The fine is AED 100.
Can I take my bicycle?
Only foldable bicycles, folded inside the station and train.
Are e-scooters allowed?
Foldable e-scooters without a seat, up to 120 × 70 × 40 cm and 20 kg, folded and switched off.
What is Gold Class?
A premium cabin for Gold nol card holders, with fares double the Silver fare.
Is there a women-only cabin?
Yes, a Women & Children cabin on every train.
Future
When does the Blue Line open?
9 September 2029 (planned). Details.
Is there a Gold Line?
A Gold Line of 42 km and 18 stations has been announced for 9 September 2032.
Is the Dubai Metro driverless?
Yes, all trains are automated, with no driver.
