How the zones work
Dubai's network is divided into seven fare zones; the fare depends on how many zones the journey passes through (1 zone, 2 adjacent zones, more than 2 zones). The gate reads your card when you enter and when you exit, and charges the right amount. Changing between the Red and Green lines at Union or BurJuman is part of the same trip.

How do Dubai Metro zones affect the fare?
You pay according to how many zones your trip passes through: one zone (AED 3 Silver), two adjacent zones (AED 5) or more than two zones (AED 7.50). The number of stops does not matter.
What zone is Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station in?
RTA does not publish a separate zone for it in the sources we checked, but both neighbouring stations, Business Bay and Financial Centre, are in Zone 6, so trips are charged as Zone 6.
Which zone is the airport metro station in?
Airport Terminal 1 and Airport Terminal 3 are both in Zone 5, together with Deira stations such as Union, Al Rigga and City Centre Deira.
Is a trip from the airport to Dubai Marina 3 zones?
Yes. From Airport Terminal 3 (Zone 5) to Sobha Realty (formerly Dubai Marina, Zone 2) the train passes through Zone 5, Zone 6 and Zone 2, so the Silver fare is AED 7.50.
